After Fighting PCOD and Endometriosis, here I am in 8th Month of Pregnancy

I come from a lower middle class family that was pretty orthodox. When I started menstruating 16 years back no one ever told me about the nightmares a woman might face during periods.

During my second menstrual cycle, I realized something was wrong with the pain. It would be unbearable. I would bleed for 15 days followed by no bleeding at all for few months.

By the time I completed my 12th grade, I was diagnosed with PCOD (Polycystic Ovaries Disease) and Fibroids and was told that I shouldn’t have high hopes of becoming a mother.

I had just lost my younger sister and my life was already upside down but I was determined to fight against all odds. In 2009, I was admitted for the first time for bleeding for months. Taking tablets did not help and my doctors had told me that time, let the bleeding go on, as it would break the cysts.

This continued till I graduated. The real challenge began when I started working. I was suffering from severe pain and got literally no break from the bleeding.

The year 2012 was a testing time for me. I had a chocolate cyst that got burst and infected me. It was at this stage that I was told I have endometriosis – a word I had never heard before.

The scarring of the ovaries, the unbearable pain, the bleeding all made sense but the doctors way of putting it across as just a fertility issue was highly confusing for me and my family.

After I got diagnosed with Endometriosis, five years down the lane, I am married now and by God’s grace have the most understanding husband who has not only stood by me through thick and thin but has also given me hopes of a baby. I am currently in the 8th month of pregnancy and touch wood nothing has affected.

It is not just my tolerance and determination, appropriate medical help but having a caring and supportive partner is what brought me till here. Obviously, well wishers and understanding friends are also equally important.
