Types Of Hair Loss

a) Androgenic Alopecia

Androgenic Alopecia often runs in families and affects some people more than others. In men, it is often referred to as Male Pattern Baldness. It is characterized by a receding hair line and baldness on the top of head. Women, on the other hand, don’t go entirely bald even if their hair loss is severe. Instead, hair loss is spread out evenly over their entire scalp.

Hormones play a dominant role in Androgenic Alopecia. Both men and women produce testosterone. Testosterone can be converted to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) with the aid of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase. DHT shrinks hair follicles causing the membranes in the scalp to thicken, become inelastic and restrict blood flow. This causes the hair follicles to shrink or get wasted away. As a result, when a hair does fall out, it is not replaced.

b) Telogen Effluvium

This occurs when sudden stress or malnutrition causes large number of hair follicles to enter the Telogen phase of cell division at the same time. A couple of months later when they reenter Anagen (another phase of cell division), this provokes a mass shedding of hair.

c) Alopecia Areata

Losing hair in spots or patches. It is thought to be an autoimmune process in which the body attacks its own hair follicles, thinking them to be foreign bodies.

d) Trichotillomania

An obsessive compulsive disorder which involves the pulling of one´s own hair, this is most commonly seen in younger women, typically pre-teen or teenagers.

e) Traction Alopecia

Hair loss caused by extreme stress to the hair through severe hair styling, such as braiding, cornrows or extensions.

Yes, stress can trigger some immunological or endocrinal changes which may in turn changes which may lead to alopecia. However, stress is not the single factor leading to alopecia.

Homeopathy can help treat cases of hair fall, alopecia areata and trichotillomania. Baldness (Androgenic Alopecia) cannot be treated with homeopathy. Though it cannot be reverted, it can be controlled.

Any derangement in the internal system cannot be merely treated with shampoos and oils. You need to follow a holistic approach to control hair fall.
