How to get pregnant?

It seems like everybody is asking the same question. It is the most searched subject line and more of us are trying to understand better. We offer a few pointers and concepts that can help you achieve your goal of conception via natural and scientific methods.

We further introduce the Inito ovulation tracker that will help you track your ovulation at the comfort of your home.

What is conception?

A woman conceives when the sperm fertilizes the ovum or an egg inside the ovary. It is the first step to fertilization, fetus formation and eventually the birth of a child.

Every menstrual cycle, one mature egg is released from either of the ovaries into the fallopian tube .This process is called ovulation. The lifespan of this mature egg is just 12-24 hours and conception can happen only if the sperm is present during this time.

As the sperm can survive up to 5 days, the 3-5 days leading to Ovulation or before ovulation is considered the Fertile Window. To increase the chance of conception, it is important to have timed, planned and frequent intercourse in the fertile period or the fertile window. A good approach is to have sex on alternate days before ovulation and most importantly on the day of ovulation.

When does a woman ovulate?

It depends on the length of your menstrual cycle. A woman typically

cycletable ovulates about 12-14 days before your next period – not mid-cycle, as commonly thought.

However, stress, heavy exercise, weight loss, or gain, unexpected events in life, cause irregular cycles, and hence irregular dates of ovulation.

If your cycles are irregular and more than 35 days apart or longer, you should consider seeing your obstetrician-gynecologist or a fertility specialist especially if you are planning pregnancy.

In the event you are facing difficulty timing your ovulation while trying to get pregnant or if there are irregularities, there are ways using which you can track ovulation.

Ways to track ovulation

Ultrasound Scans

Doctors use ultrasound scans multiple times a cycle to track and study the follicle size. This method is the most accurate but also the most inconvenient as you have to go to the hospital multiple times.

Urine Hormone Measurement

You can also track ovulation at home by measuring the fertility hormones in urine. The body releases Estrogen and Luteinizing hormones before ovulation in the urine, using which we can not only predict ovulation, but also get to know the complete fertile window.

And to make the whole process easier, here is an accurate ovulation monitor– INITO. It lets you identify up to 6 fertile days right in the comfort of your home. It is simple and hassle-free and is very easy to use.

INITO has 3 parts:

  1. Reader: A simple mobile attachment device that you affix to your smartphone that reads test strips
  2. Test Strips: These strips measure Estrogen and Luteinizing Hormone in Urine
  3. The Inito fertility app, that you can find in the Google Play Store.
