Mental Health today has become of utmost importance today since depression is no less than an epidemic. Not taking care of your mental health would significantly deteriorate the quality of work, your relationships, your dreams, passions and eventually your physical health. Over all, your quality of life suffers.
But making small changes in your lifestyle can prove wonders for you and the quality of life you’re living. And don’t worry, habits don’t form in a day neither break in a day. Follow these slowly, like baby steps.
- Wake-up Early
Turns out, early to bed and early to rise does make you healthy, wealthy and wise. So stop taking pride in saying I’m not a ‘morning person’ and get your feet off bed.
This is not just another random suggestion someone on the internet is giving you, it is a scientifically proven fact that waking up early makes you feel happier and healthier, boosts your immune system and improves your productivity along with helping you maintain those pounds.
Set achievable goals. A University of London study says those who wake up by 7 AM have a lower chance of developing stress, depression and even obesity.
- Keep Your Phone far from Your Reach While Going to Sleep
You snooze you lose. I bet if there was a study, more than 90% of us would say we keep multiple alarms for one time we want to wake up. But science says that hitting the snooze button is very unhealthy since it creates sleep inertia.
In simple words, when you wake up and go back to sleep again, your body enters another sleep cycle and breaking them result into the fatigue you feel all day. So here’s a simple trick. Keep your phone away from your reach so that you would have to stand up giving you a little nudge to not go to sleep again.
- Water is Elixir
Hydration is an important habit and there aren’t enough articles and doctors stating the same. Not having water for more than 6 hours all night will dehydrate your body which can be easily solved by having only 500 ml of water after you wake up. This will also improve your metabolism, will boost energy, maintain brain function, regulate digestion and again, helps in losing weight.
No wonder our bodies are 50-80 % water. Hydration is important for all vital organs.
- Breakfast
‘Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dine like a pauper’ is a saying we all might’ve heard. But do you know about the significance of the same? Your body has been fasting for more than 6 hours which is why the first meal is called ‘break-fast’ and hence makes it important to have a proper healthy breakfast which must include proper amounts of protein, fibre and healthy fats.
- Meditate
For those asking what to do if not snooze and getting more sleep, utilize this extra amount of time by meditating and resting that forever working brain by focusing on your tasks for the day or any positive thought.
Or just make your bed if meditation is not your thing.
- Break a sweat
The fact that most of you reading this would be while sitting, on your desk or on your bed or in your car which proves how sedentary our lives have become and the need of physical movement because just like machines, you have to keep moving. Rest=Rust.
- Go outside
Sunlight is necessary for both flora and homo sapiens. Photosynthesis for the plants and Vitamin-D for us. Getting out in the morning also helps adjust your body clock which might result in automatic sleep-wake cycles and eventually, hormone release, digestion along with body weight maintenance.
