“Characterless ME”, Kruti Mehta’s Voice snubs the Cultural Stereotypes!

Characterless-me

Thoughts are like whirlpools, they take me into them until I sink till the bottom. Recently, while reading Nathan’s wonderful book “Shock of the Fall” I came across a very intriguing line.

“She has known sadness and that made her kind”

And there started my cycle of thoughts. I have been known to be a rebellious writer but I like voicing my opinion especially when it comes to those things considered sensitive in the society. I have often seen sensitive issues being mishandled, miscommunicated and resulting into something it was never meant to be. Majority of the care-takers of “culture” are double standards and it’s not easy to fight their thoughts.

banner_COUNSELLORThere have been jokes around her and even descriptions of how she throws tantrums on others but when you really decode her, you will understand the mystery behind everything she does. Also it’s a very popular cliché that women really don’t speak what they want but if you dig deeper into her character you will find the beauty of her being.

We have often seen people pointing fingers on women for being out of her character, especially in India, but what is a character? Who defined it? On what parameters was she given that tag?

A woman; any damn woman is fully capable of being 100% faithful to the one she loves. Temptation of any kind will never weaken her and all she craves for is attention, love, honesty and loyalty – few heavy words that come with lot of responsibilities. Not everyone can take the weight of them and often land in trouble with their relationships with the women in their lives.

But as far as the relationships are concerned, who is it to be blamed? Of course women; the weak and the feeble creatures of the society, that’s how they are portrayed everywhere.

I am not showing a gender bias here. Not, at all. For there have been women who have taken advantage of such situations. But when you truly respect few ethics in your life, you tend to face the problems which majority of the women in the society today face.

Before she cheats, she will whine and cry. She will complain about everything that makes her unhappy. It is more like a warning before a powerful destruction. And when she is not being paid heed to what she does? She moves ahead in the direction of her heart.

She does everything that makes her happy and that is where the word “uncultured” suddenly comes in limelight.

According to a research by Tammy Worth, women tend to have an emotional connection with their lover and are more likely to have an affair because of loneliness. “Women tend to be unhappy with the relationship they are in,” Fisher says, “while men can be a lot happier in their primary relationship and also cheat“.

Since childhood, women are taught only one thing “All the little girls are made of sugar and spice, and all the nice things”.

They are taught to be “good girls”, “behave like a lady”, and always hold that friendly smile”.

Today, in 21st century, in an independent country like India; are we truly independent?

Women are judged or have to face many barriers to pursue some primary things like – to be tough, to speak their mind out, to become a CEO, to enjoy sex, to open and vocal about sex, and those who break these cultural stereotypes are labeled as “Characterless”. Even google search engine has not spared Indian Women. Try typing ‘Indian Women’ in google images and there you go – series of “not presentable” snaps.

Come on people!

Think about it
