Human sexuality is the way people experience and express themselves sexually. This involves biological, erotic, physical, emotional, social, or spiritual feelings and behaviors. We all make choices depending on how we feel from within. What we like, dislike, prefer, don’t want, all depends either on our feelings or experiences. Human sexuality cannot be taught or influenced. Yes, there may be phases of experiments but your true understanding of yourself completely depends on what you feel from within.
Bisexuality is one of the human sexualities like homosexuality or heterosexuality. Bisexuality is romantic attraction, sexual attraction, or sexual behaviour toward both males and females. Bisexuality has long been a controversial concept for many. In many people’s understanding, sex is only natural when it is between a male and a female.
A human has sex for two reasons, procreation and pleasure. When it’s about procreation, peno-vaginal sex is the natural way of having babies. When it’s about pleasure, both man and woman do experiment with ‘other’ types of sexual experiences like oral sex or anal sex or just helping each other to orgasm. It has been observed that many men do like to have oral as well as anal sex while majority women in India do not prefer to. Though that’s changing with time.
It is known that there are many people who fantasize about having sexual relationships with same gender people. Some engage in same sex activities to be certain about their feelings. They experiment to find out if they really are homosexuals, bisexuals or is it just a phase. And many people who identify as gay/lesbian have had heterosexual experiences. That’s bisexuality, swinging both ways.
Teenagers often find themselves having sexual thoughts and attractions. For some, these feelings and thoughts can be intense and confusing. There are teenagers who have romantic or sexual thoughts about someone who is the same sex they are. This confuses them even more. They doubt themselves and may indulge in sexual activities with both sexes to know who they really are. The social nonacceptance and stigma makes it extremely difficult for these youngsters to come out openly and exercise their rights.
Many research shows that bisexuality is real, not a passing fancy but quite often a lifelong orientation. This has been established only after speaking to many and researching about sexuality. Some people do go through a phase of bisexuality while they are on their way to confirming their lesbian/gay or heterosexual identity. For many others bisexuality remains a long-term orientation.
Bisexuality is about dreams and desires and capacities as much as it is about acts. Bisexuals are people who can have lovers of either sex, not people who must have lovers of both sexes. Some bisexual people may have multiple partners at the same time, but not all need to be with both sexes in order to feel fulfilled.
It’s a question in many people’s mind and they cannot understand why anyone would choose to have relationships with both sexes and that it’s unnatural. Yet once again, it’s not an experiment or a fun activity for bisexuals, it’s a natural feeling they have towards both sexes. Now, how does one control that. What they can control is their decision to act upon it. As mentioned above, not all bisexuals have sexual relationships with both sexes.
