Don’t we all look at the woman who is on a bike and think how unusual it is. Don’t you think the fact that you see a person on bike and just because of her being a female its unusual is unusual in itself?
Don’t we all dream about that overdue bike trip we want to Leh-Ladakh? Sometimes it is work that is not letting you go while sometimes it’s other priorities and commitments. Sometimes, it is the fact that you are a woman in India and your parents just won’t let you go because of the popular and obviously non-sense stereotype, ‘Ek akeli ladki khuli tijori Jaisi hoti hai’ or a single woman is like an open safe.
Urvashi Patole, Bikerni
Well, the Bikerni group of women are going to break this stereotype by riding approximately 19000 kms next year covering multiple locations and crossing international borders from London to Delhi and very much so, on their motorbikes! History will be created and this is not exaggeration since this trip would be the largest group of women motorcyclists to ride a long distance by road in a single road trip.
Why you ask? These women drive with a goal of spreading a message of women empowerment, not only in India but around the globe. They aim to bring about a change in the way women in general are perceived and want more inspirational women to be agents and initiators of change in their own communities. Most significantly, as women riders, the Bikerni troupe wants to be a positive story emphasizing that India is an amazing country even for women.
