The Game Changer in Preventing Pregnancy is here: Male Contraception

In a physical relationship, when there raises a question of who will take the responsibility of birth control, men have lesser contraception choices like using condoms or get a Vasectomy done. Condoms although highly functional are not 100% effective and vasectomy is a permanent method of contraception. Unless you are entirely sure that you and your partner are never planning a baby in future, in that situation only permanent method of contraception like Vasectomy (for men) and Hysterectomy (for women) are applicable.

When females take responsibility of contraception they have range of options, though all those options come with their own minor side effects especially the hormonal methods of contraception. “The pill” has always been a saviour for women to prevent unwanted, unplanned pregnancies.ask-a-doctorThe good news is that the first male contraceptive is on its way, which will be the first FDA approved contraceptive for men. This contraceptive will be available in US market from somewhere around 2018 – 2020. The name of this contraceptive is Vasalgel. It is a non-hormonal male contraceptive owned by the medical research organisation the Parsemus Foundation.

It is easy to take Vasalgel as one injection that will last for few years. Vassalage is a polymer which is injected under local anaesthetic into the man’s sperm-carrying tubes, accessible through the scrotum. It works by blocking sperm and is expected to be reversible through a second injection that dissolves the polymer. Though all these claims will be proved after clinical trial in 2016.

Another advantage of contraceptive Vasalgel over vasectomy is that while it blocks sperm, other fluid can still pass through. This further reduces any risk of pain due to back pressure, an occasional complain among men after their vasectomies. This could make Vasalgel a better option even among men seeking a permanent contraception.

This contraceptive option will be proved life changing for women as now men can take equal responsibility of contraception. When a man decides to take contraceptive, the couple can enjoy those precious intimate moments by being carefree. However, no contraceptive methods can replace barrier method of contraception i.e. condoms when it comes to protection against STIs and STDs.
