Indians and their obsession for fair skin aka “khubsurati ka nikhar” and “gorapan“. Most of us Indians would have wished that we were born with a radiant, fairest of fair skin as good as white LED-like light popping out of our face and bodies always that the idea of beauty is equivalent to the skin tone of the person. The advertisements for these fairness creams also assert this non-sense beauty stereotype and cultural misappropriation and show that how well you can clear interviews or be successful in your chosen field of work if you have fair skin.

Abhay Deol is one such Bollywood actor who has openly and blatantly called out on hypocrisy and silliness of fairness cream/lightening cream/ whitening cream endorsements and the celebrities who endorse these products and as a result strengthen the notion of “fair is lovely”, rest is not-so-much.

Another celebrity, who has called out on India’s obsession of fair skin and brought this important concern in limelight again is talented dancer and actor – Mukti Mohan.

Mukti Mohan shared a note in her Instagram post talking about insecurities related to skin tone among Indians,

“Unfair and Lovely? Kaali ladki ka kya hoga bechaari!!!! Shaadi kaise hogi iski? Yuck ugly!! She is evil!

First of all WE Indian/African SUN kissed awesome people ruled the world before the colonization, industrialization, globalization, marketing booming world which was created by the lesser sun receiving skin population. Remember old movies, we had more gold and they killed each other for food?

Yes , so in order to rule they had to make us feel inferior but it’s up to you how you want to breath the same air, feel the sun and shhhh the non sense. Second of all, you are as beautiful on the outside as you are on the inside. Do not use filters and creams that gives you instant gratification coz it will fade away but you will still look 25 till you are 50 if you stay out in the sun playing. That goes for men and women both , God!!! Men are getting obsessed with looks more than ever. Lastly if someone says, dark is the symbol of ugly and evil, send them to school.
